So, after reading all the crap about the 66 paint job, and Paul's great response, I started to wonder about painting an 89 body. I know Kevin and Jack aren;t to that stage yet - have you guys thought it out?

What is involved in going with a matte black paint job for an 89? How does the price differ from the paint jobs Paul was talking about for the 66? I guess I don;t ever remember seeing any posts on paint for the 89....

I am going with the satin black; I have given it a lot of thought about OnStar grey.

I think the damn thing looks great in primer black. It's supposed to be tough. Jack has some great ideas for his paint that I didn't care for at first but have since changed my mind about. I'll let Jack let that cat out of the bag when he's ready though.

satin black is like a walk in the park or like tim said black primer just about anyone can make one look good (black primer + wet sanded with 2000 grit = bad black car) and it also makes wavey fiberglass car look good

Yep, black primer for me. Satin or matt finish is gonna make that baby real sexy.

Onstar grey.... interesting choice, didn't see that coming from you Kevin. But I gotta go with the my gut and say a gun metal grey / flat black look. The shiny returns color just doesnt cut it, somehow it softens the car.

You don't see any modern fighter aircraft with shiny paint jobs.

I installed slightly tinted windscreens, now that I have looked in the vehicle laws, I see front windscreen tinting is not allowed except for the upper visor. I hope I don't get slammed for it.

I came up with a design for a retractable tinted "shade". Not a detailed design, just something that you could slide in and out of place so people couldn't see you inside.

I sprayed my firewall with PPG DP90LF Non-Sanding Epoxy Primer. I love this stuff because it offers a lot of the same protection that paint does. Also body filler can be used on top of it safely without it coming off. Great stuff and the color is perfect. Of course it's not cheap, like everything to do with this car. My final paint scheme will have to remain secret for now.
