It’s from the mold being two pieces; a mold line remains as an outline.

Well, that's different than being in two pieces. Those are just seams for the parting lines. The vents in the picture look to have been molded separately. That could have been the way they did it for the "real" cars, at least at some point. Perhaps later, the car was molded with the deck lid as a single piece. As I understand it, molds were given to Jay, but these may not have been the original molds taken from the car sculpted by... crap, forgot his name, Charlie? I posted his name earlier, but with no search feature forget finding it.
