That's a good question. Most say it's because that area is easily damaged. I just have a hard time buying that. I really doubt they were worrying about that kind of thing when they were building the car. For a replica sure that's a great idea. If you damage it you could just replace it. So, you got me I have no idea.

My guess is so it can be easily removed to gain some much needed clearance for the front end. They might take those pieces off for loading it on a flatbed.

It looks like that may have doubled as a display platform. Probably had a curtain around it. If that's the case, then they could have re-installed the front spoiler. (would you call that a spoiler?) I've seen that picture before but I'm only guessing, I have no idea.
