Jack, I sent you a high rez pic of the canopy open from that same outdoor shoot above. If you look at this pic with the canopy closed, you can see that the cut line of the canopy lines up almost exactly to the cut line of the gun doors. There is a bit of overlap but only in side view. In other words, the gun door can come off even with the canopy open.

The 1/7 scale RC model also lines up so I'm at a loss for words on the 1/18 model. What bugs me is not as much that it overlaps but why. Can't tell if the canopy is too wide or the doors are too close together. I'll dig through my pattern photos and find out exactly when it changed and how.

Ok, you guys got me...

These photos don't line up exactly, but I think that they do show that the 1:18 gundoors are wider than the real car. Look at the distance between the gundoor and the edge of the fender.

Tim, yeah you're right. What's really noticable is the grill area in front of the canopy in the closed position. As it goes to the left and right it ends just before the gun door edge (on the real car). On the model it continues further left and right! Bad!!

It looks like more of a problem with material thicknesses on the 1/18 and moving plastic parts. The pattern they started with was right on but as it was resculpted to make it work...it drifted one way and another.

Nope, no refunds!

Bit of trivia non-Batman: The toys for the film Iron Giant were EXACTLY patterned to the animation models. Well, when they put him in the package, he was too wide...so they took off some thickness in the back and pissed off collectors. Happens all the time.

Dave,
I think the grill is correct. It lines up with the edge of the canopy just like the real car (although the real car does have a sharper corner than the 1:18.) The problem with it going past the edge of the gundoor is just becase the gundoors are too wide. The outside edges of the gundoors line up pretty well with the real car but inside edges are what's off. Again, this would have to be this way in order for the guns to have enough clearance to rotate the way they do. If they would have left it to where the doors popped off and the guns raised straight up (like I think you said you wanted) then it wouldn't have been an issue.

Dave, how exactly did you 'capture' the car? Did you use a 3D scanner or digitizer? Or did you sculpt it by hand from photos and measurements kind of like sg1star is doing? Or was it a combination of both? If it's a trade secret, I understand.

Thanks again Dave for bringing such a high-quality and accurate product to us. Also, thanks so much for not putting the windshield wipers on the car.
