Maul, sorry I never answered your question. The 1/7 scale Batmobile was from the first film. Here's the story I got from the WB archive guy: Anton Furst went through a series of drawings trying to get the right look for this car. Being frustrated (as true artists get), he went into clay and started sculpting in 3D. There was actually a special on TV back in early 1989 about how the 1989 Batmobile was built (local tv here in LA). They showed this roughed out model next to the full-size car. Ok, then they figured that for the Axis chemical explosions they would need an RC version of this car. Derek Meddings saw this maquette than Furst built and thought it would be the perfect scale for remote control. They took the clay maquette, cleaned it up, and made a few castings. A fully built 1/7 scale RC car was built for production but once they determined that the full-size car and stunt driver were safe for the shoot, they shelved the model. Well, a few of these shells got out and one ended up in the collection of someone famous out here in LA (can't name names). I got a hold of this model, brought it to the Mattel model shop and they cleaned and perfected the surfaces. We made a mold and pulled out a copy for the Dream Halloween charity auction piece. You can see pics of that model, with lights on the cobblestone base. The mold still exists and just before it was trashed, we "liberated" it and it now sits on a shelf at an effects company here in LA. I think the model I've seen on Ebay is a re-sculpted version of maybe one of the Meddings castings. Some areas just don't look right.
That's the story. Oh yeah, I got one and all of the parts and ONE day I'll put it together. I'm debating RC right now.

Thanks Dave! So it was pretty much sculpted by Anton himself, that's awesome! Excellent work on the charity piece by the way, simply incredible. Now the question is, does anyone have a copy of that show on tape anywhere?

Yeah, a copy of that show has got to exist somewhere. I don't suppose anyone remembers anything about it, what station it was on, who produced it, who was in it, what it was called, etc... Maybe we can track it down.

It was shown here in Los Angeles on KABC as part of a local news program. The host was Gary Franklin who used to do the movie reviews out here for a long time. His big thing was "On a Franklin scale of 1 to 10, I give this movie a...". they must have sent him to England at the time because he walked around the set, interviewed Tim Burton, and they even spent some time around the full-size crashed Batwing. The big thing for me is when Gary interviewed John Evans and they showed the Batmobile, maquette, etc. John even explained how they sprayed the layers of pearls over the black to get that sheen.
Speaking of the 1/7 scale car, there was a special effects magazine out of England that had a story about Meddings and had several shots of the RC Batmobile. I have it somewhere and I'll scan it in.
