It didn't seem right to resurrect the original 8 year old thread, which really didn't have much content.
After 8 years of moving, several additions to my family and several more movies with the Caped Crusader, the Tumbler still holds up. And I still want to build one out of a Pontiac Fiero.
Call me slow, but my biggest hold up has been how to make a mostly movie accurate cockpit without having to resort to using an electric engine. I still want that V8 power.
This week I finally figured out how to do it.
I'm happy to announce that today is the official beginning of the Fumbler build.

Looking forward to your build. There is a build thread around here somewhere where a guy from GB built a tumbler on an MR2 you might be interested in. Fiero is six cylinder, right? I think both those platforms seem pretty small for a Tumbler unless you are building is to a smaller scale.

I spent a lot of time looking at the MR2 build (all of the builds, really) and I like how it turned out. I also like how it was updated.
You're right, the Fiero is small, and it will be even smaller after I'm done chopping it up. But I will have a VIN in case I ever want to do something with it that requires license plates.
I think what's left will leave a good base for the cockpit. A lot of steel is going to be added.

So here is my answer to the question, "how do I avoid running a driveshaft through the cockpit?"
Can anyone guess what kind of transmission is connected to the motor?

That would be the picture of a THM425 transaxle with the diff replaced with a tail shaft from a TH400. The THM425 came in the 60's and 70's Toronado and also in some Eldorado's.
Some of the stock motors that it was attached to were rated at 400hp and the cars weighed close to the same as the Tumbler.

Need to make sure your axle has the right offset for the driveshaft.

slysnake (2/8/2020) Need to make sure your axle has the right offset for the driveshaft.
I imagine that I will have to narrow/widen whatever rear axle I use, nine inch or otherwise. If I have to, I can also offset the motor and figure out a way to make up for the uneven weight.

Got a new Hot Toy. I'm having some problems reconciling the canopy opening.
Is it just the fact that it's a toy and isn't accurate? Or is the movie Tumbler with the opening canopy a little wider than the driving cars?
