slysnake (8/26/2019)
oil cooler for the gearbox was mounted with zip ties
That seems perfectly normal to me. But I'm an old country boy.

Yeah it would be if the secured the 4 corners instead of just one...

Hi All.

Well where do I start...
Lets see, 2020 was a complete write off due to Covid and everything that came along with it...

Now I have Good news & Bad News... (Like every story start when you know you are in for something... )

So I will start with the BAD news first...
* After I got my cab running smoothly again and fixed all the little issues, the gearbox went and set me back yet again... So I decided to take the knock and just get rid of it as it was giving me more issues rather than any enjoyment or use as I planned and thought it would...
* Thanks to Covid and all the financial implications that came along with it, we had to move...
* After the move I started getting my stuff sorted out and found that even though I had all my stuff boxed and labelled for the build, the guy that was working for me at the time decided to repack and mix everything so bad that I had to scrap all info I had and start again. (This was for parts, info, pics ect. well for all the hard copies atleast)
* And doing shift work just made things worse as I could not keep my hand on the things as I would have liked and so things in general related to the move meant that parts were lost or damaged.

BUT...

Then there is some good news...

* Due to us being forced to move, we took the plunge and decide to buy our own place... Even during Covid we never thought the banks would approve due to the financial situation and so many people being without income during this time. But we got it... So no more worrying about moving again anytime soon...
* The big upside to this is the space I now have available to work. (I will send layouts and more info soon)
but the basics is that I now have a double garage to park the cars, 3 car garage with small loft area just for the build AND another double garage space to do the dirty work in... And they are all separate...
* And I now no longer do shift work, so I can plan this much better and actually have more of a plan to go on.

Ok so now for the actual update part:

- The actual build:
* So due to 2020 I have not done much on the actual build side of things but I have been looking into and thinking of some things:
1 - Diff ratio's. I can get a few rear diffs with a variety of ratios but not sure what would be a suitable range to consider. Yes I know its not built to go 200mph but also dont want to max out at 60mph. What are you guys using or thinking of using?
2 - Ive seen some guys at the local engineer shops to work around the V-drive system and looking into some options here as it would just be easier for me.
3 - I have sourced a set of classic Chevy front spindles for the wheels, just need to clean them up.
4 - I got a set of 4-pot / 4-piston calipers, discs and brake lines for the front wheels
5 - I also managed to get a set of rims for the front, now just to get them widened to the correct size.

- Preparation for the build:
* Due to the issues of the move, Ive had to sort thru all my stuff again, separate and list everything from scratch to see where I am now with parts / tools / equipment / info... (I will be posting a list up here on the thread so I can keep track as I go, just for me to check in with.)

* I got all the printouts for the body panels to start getting ready for mock-up stages on 6mm wood.

- Other:
* Ive spent a few hours searching the net listening to various engine sounds. But nothing is of such great sound quality that I can compare exhaust notes accurately. Im still in 2 minds about the motor, Still looking between the following currently:
> Toyota 1GZ-FE V12
> Lexus 1UZ-FE VVTi V8
> Chevy 350 Small Block V8 or
> Chevy 427 Small Block V8
* Im busy clearing out my space as I got some nice cabinets from someone that was renovating there entire house, so I will have enough space to pack all my stuff away. Trying to collect it with week or next week...

- Thoughts:
* Ive been looking at a few other custom car builds and found one where the guy installed a small caliper and disc at the end of his prop shaft (just in front of the diff housing) for his hand brake as he did not have enough space on the rear discs as he upgraded the rear to vented discs just like the front with stronger calipers. So I thought this might be an option... (Pic attached)

More to follow...

Good to hear you're back at it. I just reviewed the whole log here and have to say what you've done so far is very impressive. Glad you decided to continue it. Congratulations on the new place with the MASSIVE amount of workshop space!

Hey Slysnake.

Thank man, it helps the motivation a bit hearing some kind words when one thinks and feels like nothing is happening... And yeah it takes a small toll when you cant do anything and then your mind starts playing games with you in making you believe it will never happen so just let it go and move on with life...

But alas, Ive still got it and even though there are plenty of speed bumps in life, I try take it slow and find a way over it...

hey WAR Machine,
Glad to see you are still striving towards your Bat Vehicle build.

I've been working on my Bat Vehicle builds for about seven years.

Some of my internal drives come from a few motivational phrases:

When you can't physically build : plan to build.
The courage to build a Bat Vehicle in the face of adversity. vertigo

Thanks Vertigo.

Yeah its never smooth sailing as everyone would like to believe or make it out to be.
I'm also currently busy with a small video log of what im doing and where im thinking of going with the build.

Reason for this step was that if I think of something now and make notes, in a week or a month from now, I cant remember why I thought that and what I was planning on doing.
So lets see if it works out as planned...

Hey all.

Ok so I finally managed to get my layouts done and to scale...
I also just added in a tumbler after it took some time to scale it as accurate as I can get it to the layout.
I only did this to see what I would be working with and what I would be in for. This is only the main garage and not the other work sections, as I will be doing most of the work in here I thought I would start here. No you will see some ideas of worktop space on the mezzanine section, but didnt get around to building any of that yet. I got the desk and that is in, but instead of spending more time building things, I just stacked all the parts upstairs after I painted it and cleaned it. Now this week I will be starting to paint the rest of the garage as its in a funny blue color and Im going with a light grey. Didnt want to go with white as I think its just too dead..

Thanks Sly.

Yes it makes life so much easier to have a dedicated space / section to work and not worry about packing up every time.
My wife has been traveling quite a bit lately for work and is off to the UK again this Friday, so then I have the kids all by myself, so I always try get something small done when they go off to bed.
Be that research, sorting or clearing some stuff in the garage or just reading thru the build threads again.

So basically...
Slow progress but progress non the less and better than nothing...
