Finished the other rear side box today. The same thing as before only reversed.

And the two boxes together.....

Just a quick update.
Cut all the fiberglass sections for both front boxes yesterday. Ready to start laying it in.

Well, now we're down to it. The space in the mold is just too narrow to get into to lay the fiberglass.

Any ideas on how to get in there to lay the fiberglass would be appreciated.
So far, my solution is to make up a batch of resin and mix in a bunch of fiberglass fibers, then pour the mixture into the mold. That was about a gallon of resin and quite a bit of fiberglass. With this amount of resin, the fiberglass will get really hot as it cures. So I'm hoping it won't melt the mold. Also, it will make the front of the box quite heavy. Any other methods would be welcome.

Finally got some time and a bit warmer weather to finish this front box. Today I started by cutting and grinding off the excess material past the edges of the mold.

Then I started removing the mold from the part. Looks like that area I was worried about came out fine.
This time I put on several layers of green parting film. That worked great, as most of the mold sections just lifted off the part with little effort. These pictures show the residue from that still on the part as I haven't cleaned it at all yet.

Here's the front and rear box as they would be positioned on the car.

Weather is getting bad now so I guess it's time to wrap it up for this year. I'll have to save that last box for next spring.

hey sly,
Very impressive.
Looking back over your history with fiberglass/resin on your B v S DOJ batmobile are there any lessons you have learned that would benefit anyone considering building a Bat Vehicle using fiberglass/resin methods? vertigo

Quite a few!
1. It would be much easier if I had a chop gun. Hand laying is a LOT of work.
2. I have used a brush to apply most of the resin to the cloth in this build. Lately I started using a roller. That uses more resin, but the ease of use and quality of the results are much better.
3. Quality prep of the mold is crucial.
4. Don't be stingy with the parting material. Wax, parting film.
5. Get the proper resin. Bondo that they sell in stores is very thick and doesn't do a good job of soaking into glass matting. Get your materials from a supplier that has specific types of resin.
6. Fiberglass can't bend around sharp edges. Round your edges or butt up separate fiberglass pieces.
7. It's nasty stuff. Use disposable clothes. With the glass mat, fiberglass fibers go everywhere. Use a respirator!
