hey THEMAN,
Very valuable and useful information on the steering wheel.
Are you planning to and/or started a B v S DOJ or Justice League Batmobile?

for the 1 steering wheel mount and the 4 "suspension" mounts on the side exposed mechanics, they used these Rizoma motorcycle parts... Rizoma Suzuki GSXR Clutch cover, and BMW Camshaft Cover for the center bolt.

Thanks for the great info. I already knew about the thrustmaster steering wheel from my thread http://www.chickslovethecar.com/board/Batmobile_Topic161100-4-1.aspx

I am a little concerned about using a gaming controller as an actual working steering wheel, but I have several ideas to make it work. I guess the first step will be to actually acquire one and see what is needed.

Was just getting ready to search for those Rizoma parts, so your information on that is quite timely. I believe there are some Rizoma parts in other areas of the car as well. Do you agree? Never would have guessed the BMW part for the center bolt. THANK YOU!

Would LOVE any more sources you would be willing to share. Would certainly save a lot of work.

Edit: Oh, and on the tires, I had found the actual alliance flotation tires manufactured in China last year but couldn't find a way to buy them in US at that time. Now I have seen tires very similar to them offered for sale but I haven't spent much time thinking about it yet. These tires will be quite an expense so it will be important to be aware of all the parameters involved. Like hubs, rims, size of wheel covers.

Ever wonder what all those Formula one steering wheel controls actually do? vertigo

My thoughts on the steering wheel... split it in half and mount it back together around a real steering wheel frame to have legitimate road use strength. You'll want something close in size, so a smaller 12-13" maybe. and then you'll wanna grab an adapter hub to mount it and take the 5-bolt clutch cover parts.
I'm thinking this wheel personally.

sly - I know you're concentrating on the body, but tire decision and running gear will dictate a lot of your build game-plan. Since you're on a scaled build anyway, agro tires slightly smaller than the originals may be better attainable in the states.
I'm doing 8-lug HD axle rear and 8-lug HD spindles front for mine and sticking with 20" wheels and DOT tires. If I went with agro tires, the sheer weight management would put my build out of budget and usefulness on the road, much less legally driving it on road. The 46x19.50-20 bias ply tires keep max speed at 80 at least, instead of 50 at best with agros, and the bias are only about 150# each instead of 500#... If you go to 40x15.50x20 you get a 100mph ability and control with 95# per tire, and mount those on 20x17 wheels will still give the movie car feel if you take your scale down to 7/10.
I have wilwood front and rear brakes specd for 2500HD trucks, so it will stop well too with the lighter tires, but go with agros and you add an extra 1500 #s of rolling inertia and understand why they had double sets of 6-piston bembos on each rear wheel alone for the movie car.
The suspension too... the movie car was a crazy oversized trophy truck, and they had to dial in the extra heavy duty airbag setup to control all that wheel/tire mass, just to keep it from wheel hopping down the road like crazy. Scaling down the size and weight is the only way any of us can build this thing for under a mil.
I'll be able to register mine as a street rod here in the manner I'm building it...

sly -totally agree there are other rizoma parts around that vehicle... I sprung for the wheel hub parts so far, but feel 3d print for the rest will be the way to go cost wise.

this was where I ordered the clutch cover.

and this was the cam cover.

I'm keeping the total width with tires at 100" or less, it may settle around 92" but I'm hoping to push it out within that range.

I will not be used the same rear engine layout... the LS engine is compact enough to stay in the front end like a corvette, and then use a more standard HD 4l80e to a driveshaft to the HD rear end in a more conventional and cheaper drivetrain layout.
I'd love to share and collaborate to engineer this chassis into the scaled bodies folks come up with... I think I have most of it worked out pretty thoroughly.

here is the seat base they used BTW...

I also have wheel manufacturer route narrowed down for 20" setup... will be checking with them shortly about my design replication and width needs.

sly - went to your link for the wheel thread... would've never thought to look through the 1989 area to get there, I just come straight to this BvS area. What was the thingiverse link for? I saw a gundam when I went to it...

This Winters Sidewinder is the shifter they used...

Batmobile

you can find them pretty easily from $200-250 range.

Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog flightstick was also used in cockpit... and the accompanying throttle control was used by Alfred in the batcave too for remote driving the bat-vehicles.

Oooo, thanks for all the cool toys!

I have the thrustmaster wheel ordered. When it comes in it will be interesting to see what it needs. I'm with you on the idea of wrapping around a real wheel but I was leaning more toward this: Batmobile https://www.summitracing.com/parts/omp-od-2017-nn

The other idea I had was to fill it with resin if it seemed to be fairly solid. The link that was posted is a 3d printable version of a f1 style steering wheel. It's not the 2011 Ferrari version but it is nicely done and is sectionalized so I think it could be modified and easily used as a cover for a real wheel. If my link doesn't lead to it try searching for f1 steering wheel at thingverse. Otherwise I can try to send the files to you if you want it.

Seems like you have done a ton of work on this car already. Are you posting a blog anywhere? Would love to follow (steal) your ideas. Have you thought about the thing on the roof of the car. I'm pretty sure it's the gas cap although they call it a radar something or other.
