Put 6 more hours on Justice League batmobile bringing total to 64-hours so far on
air intake /hood / top and front of dash board.
Decided to work on hood hinges installation.
Cut material from assemblies to fit and weld in ball bearing hinges.
Decided to use heavy duty ball bearing door hinges.
Will disguise most of their presence by covering with horizontal slats.
Next step:
Grind and clean up edges on the 22 metal pieces, hinge welds, and other welds.
Drill 10 holes in each of these 22 metal pieces for blind welding these pieces to the other assemblies.
Or maybe, use 1/4" diameter hex head bolts to secure the 22 metal pieces to the other assemblies to give
more importance to the assemblies look.

sly,
"hinged opening for engine maintenance?"
Yes. When I'm finished adding a few more pieces to the hood assembly it will be large enough to pull the engine if I need to do so. Removable floor panel in passenger compartment is big enough to pull the transmission if I need to. vertigo

Put 4 more hours on Justice League batmobile bringing total to 68-hours so far on
air intake /hood / top and front of dash board.
Cut and fitted horizontal slat pieces to disguise most of hinges presence.
Used small powers grinders to clean up edges on the 22 metal pieces, hinge welds, and some other welds.
Did detailed layout with metal rulers and used sharpies to mark slat locations.
Decided to use 1/4" diameter hex head bolts to secure the 22 metal pieces to the other assemblies to give
more importance to the assemblies look.
Next step: Will continue to grind on welds, drill holes in slats, and move assemblies forward towards completion.

Slats cover the hinges nicely. Looking forward to seeing what it looks like with the bolts installed.

Put 4 more hours on Justice League batmobile bringing total to 72-hours so far on
air intake /hood / top and front of dash board.
Used small power grinders to clean up more welds.
Center punched and drilled fifty seven holes in 10 slats.
Stood bolts in holes to get a look at their layout.
Next step: Next step is to drill 57 holes into metal under slats and bolt them in place.
Will continue to grind on welds, drill holes in remaining slats, and move assemblies forward towards completion.

Put 4 more hours on Justice League batmobile bringing total to 76-hours so far on
air intake /hood / top and front of dash board. From my calculations the man hours required to finish these assemblies (100 hours estimate) is approximately 15% of the 700 hours required to finish the body work.
This is my current best estimate but it could run up to a 1000 man hours.
Today I:
Used small power grinders to clean up more welds.
Drilled fifty seven holes through previously drilled holes in 10 slats.
Placed bolts through holes and checked everything for alignment.
Next step: Next step is to burn galvanizing off bolt heads.
After that the bolts and slats will be ready to install.
Will continue to grind on welds, drill holes in remaining slats, and move assemblies forward towards completion.

vertigo,
"Next step: Next step is to burn galvanizing off bolt heads."
Received an email that stated,
Why do you need to burn the galvanizing of the bolt heads?"
Vertigo
So that the paint will stick to the bolt heads. Most paint won't stick to shiny galvanizing.
Here is how I remove the galvanizing.
Drill a row of holes in a piece of 1/4" thick metal.
Put the bolts in the holes.
Use my MAP gas torch to heat the bolt head until the galvanizing vaporizes. Takes around 10-15 seconds each.
(Do this in a well ventilated area. Preferably outside.

When doing metal grinding I use safety glasses, a full face shield, and a N100 3M mask.
Exposure to grinding wheel, rotary stone, and metal dust, will do serious damage over time to your lungs.
I use the Honeywell Uvex® Bionic S8500 Faceshield with Uncoated Polycarbonate Visor for light grinding and a welding automatic darkening helmet set on grinding mode for heavy grinding.
The Honeywell Uvex® Bionic S8500 Faceshield with Uncoated Polycarbonate Visor is extremely lightweight and adjustable for all-day comfort. This revolutionary face shield is designed for rugged jobs and is ideal for workers that are exposed to impact, chemical splashes, and airborne debris.
