Yep, I know exactly what you mean. Got the same feeling when I put together the proxy car. Pictures just don't portray the presence this car has. You have to see it live.

Put in four more hours today on my Justice League batmobile.
Welded remaining plates on front angled inside core frame.
Completed welding on right hand step unit.

The base of your car is coming along nicely. Are the steps completely assessable or does the back portion get covered by the side mechanics? Have you thought about how to make the side mechanics yet?

"Are the steps completely assessable or does the back portion get covered by the side mechanics?"
No. They are partially covered.
"Have you thought about how to make the side mechanics yet?"
Yes. Currently I plan to cut out a right and left side panel.
I believe that it would be easier to work on the side mechanics with these panels laying flat on a bench.
Once these side mechanics panels were completed I plan to bolt them on as completed assemblies.

One more thing about the side mechanics panels.
I will most likely enlarge a movie car photo-image to life size in right and left formats and attach them to the side panels. Then just match parts and fabricate parts to those depicted in the full-size photo-images.

Nice. If you can find a good quality, straight on image (not from an angle) please pass it along. I may be able to use it to make a nice 3d cad file.

I snapped this one, can grab the original pic I have saved off and blow up the full res for you... and I may have some others saved, will look around.
I can also take pics of some of the actual parts I have separately to get all the 3d views.
