MINIMALIST MODEL DISPLAYS
min·i·mal·ism/ˈminəməˌlizəm/
Minimalism is a trend in painting and sculpture and that arose in the
1950s that describes movements in various forms of art and design,
especially visual art where the work is set out to expose the essence,
essentials, or identity, of a subject through eliminating all
non-essential forms, features, or concepts.
In this case, are not Batman figures, models, and memorabilia forms of sculpture?

A minimalist display of Batman figures, models, and memorabilia can be
used to enhance these works of art through manipulations of the display environment:

Batman figures, models, and memorabilia can be made to seem more
independent and important by increasing the space around them.

Batman figures, models, and memorabilia are viewed as more detailed,
intricate, and color saturated after removing distraction driven
clutter around them, and the room they are in.

A cluster of Batman figures can be made much more striking and eye
catching by using symmetry and evenly spaced patterns of display. A
display of closely displayed action figures is a turn off to most
viewers unless they are for sale at a flea market.

One or two large detailed models will command attention and admiration
when prominently displayed. Quality over quantity: Minimalists would
rather have 2 impressive pieces over 40 cheap ones.

Minimalist décor often involves:
The space should be defined by its evident physical characteristics:
materials, form, scale, and structural principles. The real-time
experience of the viewer, physically present in the space occupied by
the work, is also central to its meaning.

Guided by mantra that “LESS IS MORE”

Characterized by:

Radiating sophistication through simplicity

Easy on the eyes is easy on the mind

Balance and Empty Spaces – For minimalist decor, empty space is also
considered an important element. The space interacts with the objects and really defines the look.

PAINTED ROOMS: Restrain Color: Light colors – white, restrained
neutrals, barely there greys and pastels are intrinsic to minimalist décor.

Acrylic/glass cases and or wall recessed cabinets trimmed in chrome.

Chrome plated metal furniture with black cushions and/or integrated glass.

Clean lines & Flat surfaces – Furniture and objects in a minimalist
home will majorly have clean defined lines and curves. Similarly you
would also come across a lot of flat surfaces.

Diffused lighting through white frosted ceiling panels.

Detail accent lights that shine on important aspects in the room.

Whether it is your chair or the light or the rug – each one should
have a personality of its own but still be relevant in the overall picture.

Textures – To break the monotony of a restrained color scheme, you can
use pieces with different textures to add depth.

Patterns – A minimalist home will have limited or no patterns vertigo

Hello everyone,
The opposite of Minimalism in art is Monumentalism.
Defined as: Resembling a monument, massive and imposing, exceptionally great, as in quantity, quality of being larger than life; of heroic scale. A larger than life tribute of historical or enduring significance like a life-sized replica Bat mobile. When I was doing a lot of research last year I remember seeing a photograph of a 66 on display in a large game room that occupied about a quarter space of the whole room. Looked for the photo but didn't find it yet. This life-sized batmobile displayed in this mansion is clearly Monumentalism. On the other hand a 1/6th scale batmobile and its total display parameters that occupied 15 % of a small room would also fall under the heading of monumentalism. Other larger forms of monumetalism would be a life-sized Bat Wing airplane and an even bigger form would be a life-sized Bat Cave. vertigo

Just when I think I've covered all the forms and elements that the display of Batman models and memorabilia could take I seem to remember one more. I almost forgot abstraction and abstract art and sculpture. In this case we will look at the partial abstraction sculpture building media known by most of us as LEGOS. There are life-sized Batman statues and Bat mobiles. There are thousands of images on the internet of Batman related LEGO constructed projects and even a life-sized X wing fighter from Star Wars.

Abstract art uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.[1] Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. The arts of cultures other than the European had become accessible and showed alternative ways of describing visual experience to the artist. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. The sources from which individual artists drew their theoretical arguments were diverse, and reflected the social and intellectual preoccupations in all areas of Western culture at that time.[2]
Abstract art, nonfigurative art, nonobjective art, and nonrepresentational art are loosely related terms. They are similar, but perhaps not of identical meaning.
Abstraction indicates a departure from reality in depiction of imagery in art. This departure from accurate representation can be slight, partial, or complete. Abstraction exists along a continuum. Even art that aims for verisimilitude of the highest degree can be said to be abstract, at least theoretically, since perfect representation is likely to be exceedingly elusive. Artwork which takes liberties, altering for instance color and form in ways that are conspicuous, can be said to be partially abstract. Total abstraction bears no trace of any reference to anything recognizable. In geometric abstraction, for instance, one is unlikely to find references to naturalistic entities. Figurative art and total abstraction are almost mutually exclusive. But figurative and representational (or realistic) art often contains partial abstraction. vertigo

Hello everyone,
One of my friends following this thread asked me today, "Why do people hang posters, paintings, and other art on our walls." After considering his question for awhile in relationship to Batman fans and collectors I remembered this explanation I had once read online.

“We should strive to remember that every wall, in every city, in every
house, has a story, every bit as complicated and compelling, as our own.
As vivid of an imagination I have, and as eloquent of communication
skills I use, I cannot properly explain to someone standing in my
room, with its otherwise bland, plastered walls, that of which I am
madly passionate about.
Posters do that rather affordably.” Max Steiner

Hello everyone,
We must remember that Abstraction indicates a departure from reality in the depiction of imagery in art and that Abstraction exists along a continuum. At one end of the continuum is the beginning of slight deviation from the perfect depiction of reality and at the other end total abstraction that bears no trace of any reference to anything recognizable. It would take several thousand words to describe inadequately what a few posters and other images can accurately convey about the near totally abstract. That place where barely enough is present to make something recognizable. If we look at the 9 attached Batman posters and/or paintings we can easily grasp and understand the near totally abstract. vertigo

A few quick clarifications that relate to Batman posters, paintings, and other images:

Art that resembles nothing in the physical world is called pure
abstraction, while art that portrays something recognizable (however
distorted) is called representational. One may also distinguish
between narrative art (which tells some kind of story); the Batman is
actually doing something, and thus a story is conveyed and decorative
art (which does not). While a decorative work can be either abstract
or representational, a narrative work is always representational.

What is Artistic Style?
In terms related to comic books, graphic novels, posters, paintings,
and other images Style is how we recognize one Batman
illustrator/artist from another. “Style” is a word we use freely and
without much thought. But what does it mean? In her book, LIVING WITH
ART, Rita Gilbert writes that “style is a characteristic or group of
characteristics that we can identify as constant, recurring, or
coherent.” She goes on to say, “Artistic style is the sum of constant,
recurring, or coherent traits identified with a certain individual or
group.” An artist’s style is not good or bad. It just IS. The
execution might be criticized, the colors might be perceived as ugly,
or the composition seen as weak, but the style is what it is. The
artist’s style is a combination of the mediums, techniques, and
subject matter they choose. It’s that extra little thing they do to
distinguish their work from that of other artists. In other words,
they become known for works that contain a certain eclectic set of
characteristics.
