So last time I left off I was building the front spindle, and began tinkering with the rear drive shaft. I have since complete the front spindle and it seems to be very solid.

After finishing the front, I figured I would start on the rear. So my dilema was again how to use a pre manufactured car part with my set up. This became even more of a task because the rear spindle mount for the vette is aluminum! now to get aluminum to mesh with steel...hopefully ill make something beautiful out of these parts.

My plan is to make a large aluminum spacer/bearing holder which will be machined down to slip into the 5" steel tube and the on the other end into the spindle mount for the vette. I can then have that welded to the spindle mount and drill and tap the other end into the steel. First I had to drill out the aluminum big enough for my lathe boring bar to fit in. Thanks to a friend who owns a shop I was able to borrow a 1" dia bit instead of having to buy it for this one hole!

After getting the main pilot hole I went to work on boring out the race for the bearing and turning down the areas for fittment into their respective homes.

So the following pictures should show how its all going to go together.

And the shaft goes straight through into the splines of the hub.

Once in place the main 5" tube will slide over.

With the hub being in place it allowed me to start mocking up the frame to get more accurate dimensions on my other pieces. I cut everything long to be on the safe side and can now hold the pieces up and take exact measurements and or adjust some of the spacing and fittment.
