Houston we have a problem!

So with my mock up wheels and diff in position, and the chassis sitting 160mm (about 6 1/2 inches) off the ground, the diff is basically touching the chassis. So that means I can't lower it anymore, and I have no suspension travel!

So I will have to C notch the chassis, or modify the chassis heaps to get the travel I need. I am currently waiting to hear from the engineer as to how he wants to do this.

You guys with the Caprice chassis have it easy, with the existing 4 link and 'hump' in the chassis already

Pic of the diff where I have made the mounting point for the triangular arms of the 4-link. As the diff centre was cast iron i could not weld to it. This meant my arms would have to be welded onto the diff tubes out further, and when triangulated, they would have been really short. So I wanted them as long as possible so made the hat to go over the diff. I used 100mmx5mm and bent it up using a press brake I made a while ago.

I will be doing the chassis lengthen myself so I figured it would help if it was square and all done right.

So I whipped up this chassis jig that will enable me to fix the chassis in place while I add the extra length.

I have 2 identical chassis. I will cut the front off the first just behind the front suspension, then cut the front off the 2nd one, but with the extra length I need. Then this will be welded on the chassis so I only have one cut per side. Make sense?

The 2nd pic shows the front part of the jig that can slide. So I can add the front piece of the chassis and slide it into position.

Cutting the chassis up to extend it. This was very time consuming!

You're going to have to find something even more different, thats what I'm doing.

But I'm willing to overlook it at the moment, unless your guns come out way better than mine,

an if that is the case yo'll have to make me a set equal to if not better than yours..

that is all

Alright, I know this build is costing you thousands, upon thousands (especially those tires, yikes indeed!), but if it's any consolation, it definitely brings a smile to my face.

So just remember, if ever you feel that you need to stop working on this build, there is a guy here that your build is making happy.
