Did anyone have any preference or limiting factor when deciding between a 15x15 rim vs a 15x14 rim for either a Batpod or Tumbler build?

Trying to do a bolted-joint stackup for the wheel offsets of both front and rear, but unfortunately, I don't have the dimensions of the front spindle I'm going to use.

Also unfortunate, I'm going to lose a lot of my CAD files due to a problem with the file servers at my work... though I expected this for CAD files (I'll be switching over to Fusion 360 after December), unfortunately I lost a lot of high-res images I've collected over the past few months.

Thanks-

-Adam

Hey Spidey...

I've been worrying a lot lately about wheel offsets, and I was wondering if you worked off an "over-the-counter" wheel and design around that offset, or did you cut out the center section and re-weld the wheel together with your own custom offset?

After watching one of your videos on youtube last night, I'm also thinking about taking you up on your offer to make the plastics for me... do you have any idea how much shipping would cost from AUS to Japan?

Thanks!

I had my wheels custom made. Heavy steel wheels. Not really ideal but fitted my limited budget. Both have the same offset. My entire bike started with the mechanics inside the front wheel with the offset. I wanted to put the steering pin in the dead centre of the wheel so worked out my offset after I made this part.

Hey- Thanks for the reply,

It's nice to see blank rims... so many of the reference pictures I have looked like the hubs are much more centered, and with the parts I'm planning on using, I just couldn't see how they fit the steering axis to match the centerline of the wheel/tire. But i'm relieved to see that your wheels have a really healthy offset! Thanks!

As for being steel... . there are enough circle-track racing parts in America to weld up my own wheels... Forged Aluminum wheels in 15x15 aren't an option, and unlike Bruce Wayne, I don't have the $$$ for a 15x15 slab of billet.

That makes me wonder... didn't any of the hundreds of engineers who worked on the Tumbler or Batpod (in the fictional world) ever say, like, "Hey! I worked on that project! That was a Wayne Enterprises bridging vehicle." Or the two nerds fixing the Bat in Dark Knight Rises... Weren't they surprised when they saw the CEO of the company made a software patch on the same flying machine that carried the nuke out of Gotham??? The COO of my company can't even plug in a USB cable into his laptop.

Also wonder... is that 3/16" plate you used for the main chassis? Looks much thinner than I expected! Looks great-
