I'm at the halfway point in my interment. Looking forward to getting back at it."

Too, many demands to get a lot done in June but hope to make up for it in July. vertigo

Here is my personal favorite.
Big, comfortable, light weight, and easily hangs on wall when not needed.
Bought this creeper off Amazon.
From my experience with creepers I have learned to buy with at least a 400 LB rating.
It is not so much the weight factor as the width factor.
Creepers with less than 400 LB ratings are usually around 16 inches wide.
Creepers with 400 LB ratings are approximately 24 inches wide.

Pro Lift Mechanic Plastic Creeper 48 Inch - Blow Molded Ergonomic HDPE Body with Padded Headrest & Dual Tool Trays - 440 Lbs Capacity Red

Received an email asking,
"I bought a welder, so now I am saving my money, so I can buy a welding table, and start welding. I am new to welding a I was wondering what is your recommendation for what brand I should buy and how much I should expect to pay."

I never have bought a factory made welding table. My first welding table was a 4 x 4 foot 1/4" steel plate on top of an old oil drum. Bought it for 10.00 at a yard sale. Welding tables are all around us. As an example while visiting a scrap yard I bought two old steel ramps and two stands for 30.00. The two ramps and two stands make for an excellent break down 4' X 6' welding table that can be easily stored in a small space. I might weld a few braces to the stands for more rigidity.

NOTE: Hidden potentials exist in almost every assembly made up of multiple pieces and also in the individual pieces as well.

Anyone out there have a welding table they made or assembled from scrap metal etc.?
Any advice for new welders that have acquired a welder and imposed a delay in welding until they can afford to buy a factory made welding table? vertigo

I have the portable millermatic welding table. It's pretty hard to beat. Easy to move, easy to set up, stores nicely, and solid as a rock.

A few of my observations from using portable metal cutting circular saws.
Blade Life: Approximate lineal feet of cutting expected.
1/4" steel plate using clamped on guide fence: 30-40 feet.
1/4" steel plate cut freehand: 4-20 feet depending on operators ability to guide saw straight with even feed.
3/16" steel plate using clamped on guide fence: 35-50 feet.
3/16" steel plate cut freehand: 8-25 feet depending on operators ability to guide saw straight with even feed.
1/8" steel plate using clamped on guide fence: 70-100 feet.
1/8" steel plate cut freehand: 10-30 feet depending on operators ability to guide aw straight with even feed.

Trying to cut through welds will destroy the blade in a few seconds.

Using too fast and too much feeding force will destroy 75-90% of the blade life.

Starting to cut before saw blade reaches full speed will result in chipped and broken off teeth significantly reducing the blade life. vertigo

One more thing I learned about cutting metal with metal cutting cirular saws.
Use a full-size portable metal cutting circular for straight cut lines 2-3" or longer.
Though you could use the full-sized saw on all cuts it becomes hard to cut the 2-3" because of visibility.
So, I use a small 20V Dewalt metal cutting circular saw to cut the 2-3" cuts. vertigo

What's the noise like on these saws? I guess they're pretty loud.

Sly "What's the noise like on these saws? I guess they're pretty loud."

Metal working Cutting/Welding Processes

Typical noise levels: Some of these may surprise you.

Metal Cutting Circular Saw: up to 120 dB(A) (about the same as cutting plywood with wood cutting circular saw but not quite as loud as a chain saw.)

Grinding: 95 – 105 dB(A)

Flame cutting-oxy/acetylene: up to 100 dB(A) (typically about 90dB(A)

Plasma cutting (hand-held up to 100A, cutting up to 25mm thickness only): 98 – 105 dB(A)

MIG : 95 – 102 dB(A)

ARC (stick welder) :85 - 95 dB(A)

TIG: up to 75 dB(A)

Air arc gouging: 100 – 115 dB(A)

“De-slagging”/chipping: 105 dB(A)

Placed a copy of this post here because I will probably use this technique on my DOJ/Justice League Batmobile.
Cut out the nose cone cannon sleeve slits for both side panels of the nose cone weapons pad.
Here are some images of a trick I used to cut these elliptical slits.
Since the cannon sleeves are going to be heavily welded to support the slip in cannon barrels I don't need to
have really clean cuts.
Many hand held plasma torch users are unaware that steel can be plasma cut with a wooden template guide.
I plasma cut these elliptical slits in around 3-minutes each.
So, why would I make a template from wood. Short run quick cutting a couple of parts for welding.
Cutting templates from wood is easier and quicker than cutting them from any other material.
Wood templates are good for 2-6 cuts. vertigo

Received an email today asking about POR 15
Placed a copy of this post from 10-27-2014 here for anyone planning to and/or actually building a Bat Vehicle.
I mentioned using POR 15 on my Tumbler. This is one product you really want to read the instructions on before using in a well ventilated area. Wear gloves also mainly because regular solvent won't clean your hands. This is an outstanding product.
This is the best rust prevention coating I have found .
POR-15 Information
POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is a high performance coating designed for application directly on rusted or seasoned metal surfaces. POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is non-porous and seals and protects many surfaces from water, chemicals, salt, and other corrosive contaminants. POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is an effective anti-corrosive and rust preventive coating that offers superior chemical resistance due to its dense, cross-linked molecular composition and non-porous attributes.
The secret lies in POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating's curing process. Most paints dry through evaporation, but POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating dries faster when moisture is present. It has the opposite chemistry of ordinary paints. Now add to that POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating incredible hardness, toughness, and flexibility and you have a coating that is practically indestructible. POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is great for auto restoration, and protecting valuable equipment against rust and corrosion
Call on POR-15 to restore your car with a rock-hard, non-porous finish that won't chip, crack, or peel and prevents recurring rust by sealing your metal against exposure to moisture. The high-tech, high performance, rust-preventive coating designed for direct application on rusted metal surfaces not only covers the existing rust, it also prevents the reoccurrence of rust. Available in clear, gray, silver, and black, these non-porous POR-15 rust preventive paints are ideal for a quick improvement. vertigo
