I didn't find another discussion for european way to build a street legal bat-vehicle,
so i do like to understand if it is possible in europe homologate an home build vehicle like someone has done in other part of the world.

This topic could be helpfull not only for the Tumbler but also for other home made vehicle.

I live in Italy and here it is totally impossible do that. In the past i have try to ask at vehicle registration office if there was a way to homologate an home made vehicle and they look at me like i was a crazy criminal, i swear. I went in different place and no one even want to see my car because it was impossible do that.

But i know that in other country like German is more easy do that, i would like to know if someone have experience and explain if there is a way to homologate and how do that.

For the Tumbler i was thinking maybe is more easy find a way to homolgate it like a "buggy" and realize a scaled down version, legally speaking it could be similar to a can-am (see pics attached, totally awesome!) or something like this.

I don't even know how many european people are involved in this forum but let's try to start the discussion!

Hi mate welcome to the forum. I have built my car on a toyota mr2 car. It still is around 80 percent original car and it has a vehicle registration book, its insured and for a while it had a valid mot. I would never attempt to use it everyday as vision is very restricted and also its 10 ft wide so takes up 2 lanes here in northern ireland. When i have been lucky enough to use it on public roads i have had the assistance of local police who have escorted me or closed roads. You can see my build on this page or check out ___ batmobile tumbler belfast on facebook. Good luck with a project.

Hi! I have seen it, month ago! First of all i have to say that your tumbler turn out awesome! good work!

I have read all the post and you don't speak about you have follow some law to build it (max width, type of tire etc...) but you say that anyway you have regular documents of the car and insurance that's right?
Did you carry your car to someone that vision it and give you the approval? Have you registered all the modify you have done to the original one?

Hi sorry about the delay in answering. My vechicle will not pass an mot test again as it is now 10 feet wide at the rear. It is to wide to fit in a lane of traffic on my local roads. With the restricted vision it is hard to judge distance and proximity of other road users. A bat vehicle is generally used for shows and closed events and not as a daily driver. I think your project or car should be built on an existing chassis to aid registration unfortunately you cannot just build a vehicle from scratch in europe and hope to drive it on the road. There is legislation and vehicle approval laws for every item brakes, safety belts airbags lights etc. It is was hard enough years ago for me bringing subaru imprezzas in from Japan when they first came out and they were actually a higher specification than the limited uk ones around and they were right hand drive.
